The science of lying - lie detection training for when the truth matters
Deception is trending with individuals, organisations, governments and the media lying to us more than ever!
But, regardless of who you are, your profession and the industry you work in, we are actually ALL liars, it’s part of our DNA, our culture and history.
Sometimes we are willing participants in a lie such as innocent and harmless white lies. But what we all need to be concerned with is when we are ‘unwilling’ participants in a lie, when deception is intentional and there are higher stakes involved – such as monetary loss, reputational damage, loss of employment, loss of a contract or client, and psychological harm for example.
Deception detection or lie detection is a trainable skill and learning the ‘basics’ of the science takes surprisingly less time than what you might envisage.
At the City of Perth Library, in this interactive presentation and masterclass you will learn about the science of lying, why we are actually all liars to some extent, the myths around lie detection, and the basic skills required to learn lie detection using 6 channels of communication, including how to read micro expressions.
