Murals and street art
Walking around the City of Perth, you’re likely to stumble across a colourful mural or be captivated by some street art. As our urban art scene evolves, new works are appearing across the city, adding vibrancy to the streets. Some of the works are ephemeral, which means they may only last for a short time before being painted over or replaced with something new. The City has gained international attention in recent years, with works from some of the world’s best street artists gracing its buildings and lining laneways.
Melaleuca Breeze (2026)
Artist: Jack Bromell | Location: Hardy Road, Crawley
Spanning two walls, this artwork features delicate line-work illustrations of Western Spinebills perched within abstract melaleuca foliage. Behind the honeyeaters, layers of eucalyptus leaves are painted in a deep ironstone blue - a tone reminiscent of the night sky and echoed by a full moon on each wall.
The artist’s intention was to capture both movement and calm, creating a subtle, timeless reflection of the area’s unique natural environment and its deep connection to place.
Delivered as part of the City’s Open Space Projects.
The Pier St Trees (2024)
Artist: Joanna Brown | Location: Rear of 534 Hay Street, Perth
Designed as a cooling, pleasing, lush ‘jewel-like’ respite from the urban environment it aims to promote wellbeing and lift the spirit. The mural also hints at many shared references from the surrounding natural and built environment.
The plus symbol (+) is similar to the first aid symbol, denoting the healing and cooling effect of trees. The repeated square motif reflects the decorative features found on the facades of surrounding buildings and makes abstract reference to urban street blocks and the formality of nearby Cathedral Square.
Wolf Mural (2024)
Artist: Steven Buckles | Location: Wolf Lane, Perth
As part of the Wolf Lane Refresh initiative and the City of Perth’s Forgotten Spaces Strategy: Episode 2, the iconic Wolf Mural has received an exciting update by its original artist, Steven Buckles. With a vibrant new look, Buckles has restored this beloved piece, breathing fresh energy into Wolf Lane and captivating viewers once again with his artistic vision.
