East Perth

The City's urban fringe, where the river blends culture and neighbourhood life.

Where the Swan River / Derbarl Yerrigan bends, and the pace of city life slows, the exclusive neighbourhood of East Perth blends calm waterways and fine riverfront dining with eclectic heritage, creativity and urban cool.

Space to just be, by the water

Edged with winding boardwalks, riverside pathways and manicured parklands, it’s easy to steal a quiet, reflective moment minutes from the CBD here. You can even walk or cycle the whole stretch of the foreshore, following the Windan Bridge Loop Trail over Boorloo Bridge and Heirisson Island Kangaroo Sanctuary, past the striking Matagarup Bridge and meandering through Mardalup Park and Victoria Gardens to picturesque Claisebrook Cove.

With over a third of East Perth covered in open space and sprawling lawns, it’s also the regular host of summer festivals, cultural and community events and special pop-up film screenings.

 Ground yourself in sporting history

East Perth is where the city’s passionate love affair with sport took root in the mid-1800s at Wellington Square, Perth's first public sports ground. But it’s the fast and bouncy pitch of the WACA (Western Australian Cricket Association) that put Perth / Boorloo on the world sporting map. Revel in the game-day atmosphere and take a tour through some of the greatest sporting moments in over a century of cricketing history. Or follow the racing crowd to the heritage grandstands of Gloucester Park for a Friday night of harness racing thrills and trackside bites.

Soak in all that glitters

Sparkling by day and dripping in liquid golden-hour reflections, East Perth’s uncrowded waterfront restaurants and rooftop bars are among the top spots to relax and raise a glass to million-dollar sunset views. It’s also a trove of record-breaking treasures. Step inside the grand Federation Romanesque walls of The Perth Mint and behold a world-record-holding one-tonne gold coin and the awe of a live gold pour.

Heritage with bold new beginnings

What was once the hub of Perth’s heavy industry is now revamped and reimagined by industrious, creative minds. Old warehouses warmly welcome you to taste the awarded beers, corn whiskey and limited seasonal releases of the boldest local brewers and distillers. And in the flourishing oasis of Perth City Farm, the city connects over organic coffee, a rustic farmhouse brunch and fresh sustainable produce.
