The Perth Mint

Step inside The Perth Mint for a mesmerising journey of gold discovery. Witness a Guiness World Record breaking one tonne 99.99% pure gold coin and an awe-inspiring live gold pour demonstration.
Address: 310 Hay Street, East Perth WA 6004

Overview

Inside these historic premises, opened in 1899, tour guides introduce The Perth Mint's world-class Exhibition and its journey of gold discovery. Visitors encounter gold nuggets, hold more than $1 million worth of gold, and see some of the most famous coins and medals ever made in Australia.

Pride of place on entry goes to the One Tonne Gold Coin, inspired by the enduring popularity of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series. Made from 99.99% pure gold and a value of more than $150 million, the colossal piece won the title of the ‘largest gold coin’ by Guinness World Records.

Unique examples of Western Australia’s gold and silver heritage, ‘The Karratha Queen’ and ‘King Henry’ are two of the world’s largest and most valuable precious metal specimens.

Having enjoyed these dazzling showpieces, your guide will demonstrate a live gold pour in the original Melting House. It’s an awe-inspiring spectacle as molten gold is transformed into a gleaming solid gold bar.
