Overview
Climb the timber towers linked by rope bridges and elevated walkways. Race down the enclosed tube slide, tackle the climbing wall and overhead bars, or duck into the cubby and kiosk spaces underneath. Younger kids get their own slide, toddler swing, musical chimes and a sand-and-water trough with a hand pump.
Shade sails cover the swings, and soft rubber surfacing runs beneath most of the equipment. The playground sits unfenced beside the river, so keep little ones close.
Fire up the BBQs, claim a picnic shelter, shoot hoops on the half court or use the outdoor exercise gear. Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge fill the view across the water.
Mardalup is a Nyoongar word meaning 'place of small marsupial'. Nyoongar families camped here for generations before the site became the East Perth Gas Works. Look for the artworks built from salvaged Gas Works materials as you walk the riverside paths.
